Nigel McBride (b. 1990) is a composer and researcher. He was educated at The Queen’s University, Belfast, and St. Anne’s and Magdalen Colleges, Oxford. He was awarded his doctorate in Composition in 2016 from Magdalen College. His research primarily focuses on philosophical approaches to compositional and musicological issues. While at Oxford, he taught composition and musicology, as well as developing the seminar series The Composers’ Forum. As a composer he has collaborated with many leading performers of new music, including Ian Pace, Christopher Redgate, Gleb Kanasevich, Jack Adler-Mckean, The Cavaleri String Quartet, and Jonathan Powell. His music has been performed widely, including in the United States, Germany and United Kingdom. He is the co-editor with Ian Pace to the forthcoming Critical Perspectives on the Music of Michael Finnissy: Bright Futures, Dark Pasts (Routledge, 2019), and is represented and published by Edition Gravis, Berlin.
